Today, we were having Gordon Brothers put in a water softener.
Our water has become awful lately. It was to the point that we are getting awful stains in the toilets that won't come off with regular cleaning. I have to attack them with a constant spray of vinegar and baking soda. It's so exhausting. It's just gotten bad in the past two years, too! Even the faucets are all gunked up.
When they came for the consultation, they did some fascinating demonstrations with just how hard the water was. They filled a test tube with water and put a chemical in it to separate the rock from the water. Half the test tube turned to calcium and lime. Gross!
Next, he made some tea with the hard water and some with the soft. The smell and color difference was stunning. The hard water tea smelled like chemicals. Ewww!
He also had me soak my hand in a glass of hard water for three minutes. After, he took another glass of untouched hard water next to the one I had my hand in and put chemicals in both to show the chlorine. My glass was almost clear because most of the chlorine had soaked into my skin. Frightening! It was scary to think that much chlorine is getting absorbed into us everyday in the shower.
We were sold after all that. Plus, the extended life it will give our appliances, without all that nasty buildup.
They got here around 8:30 and nearly four hours later, we were all set!
They set everything up down in the basement, so we won't even know it's there. I'm so anxious to see how this fresh, new water will change literally everything for us.
While they were doing that, Nana took Reagan to gymnastics for me. She said she did great and was doing the beam perfect today. She's usually a little hesitant on the beam. I was so proud to hear that.
They went and spent the rest of the day at Nana's.
We were going to go out and celebrate Aunt JoAnn's birthday at Stonebridge, but about an hour before we were ready to go, it looked like it was going to get nasty, so we cancelled. It never did get that bad, but the wind was awful! Reagan ended up just spending the night with Nana and Papa and just had a ball!
This evening, Jim and Greg went down to YSU to catch the girl's basketball playoff game! They stopped for a quick bite to eat at O'Donalds before the game. Jim joked that they got the "health plate." LOL!
The girls played great and ended up pulling out a win in the last seconds. They ended up winning 68-64 against Oakland. They now get to move on to the semi-finals. Go YSU!
The photo of the day is our new water softener...
Next, Jim and Greg at dinner...
