Tales & Turtles - 164/365

It was Tales for Tots time again! We just love that little class!
They usually have it the first Thursday of the month, but they wanted to hold this session at Birch Hill Cabin and it was booked for that day. It worked out for us, because we wouldn't have been able to go since we were in the Outer Banks last week!
Anyway, this time the topic was turtles. That's part of the reason they wanted to hold class at Birch Hill, so we could walk around the Lily Pond and check out the real turtles.
It was a packed house today! Almost every seat had someone in it. We got in and we started our turtle coloring page while we waited for the rest of the kids to arrive. Nana wanted to come along today, to see what it was all about. Reagan was excited to have her there.
After everyone arrived, Miss Julie read them all a book about turtles. I forget what the title was, but the kids seemed to like it. Reagan, herself, wasn't so into the book this time. She was moving around quite a bit during story time...LOL!
After story, Miss Julie got two real turtles out for all the kids to see! They were too excited! Each kid got to pet and check them out. Reagan was totally into this part. She was almost too excited, to the point, where she was wiggling around other kids to get a second and third pat...LOL!
One of the turtles was a box turtle. Miss Julie set him down on the ground, in the middle of the room,  so the kids could see how slow he moved. They were fascinated!
Next up, was a walk around the Lily Pond. Thankfully, the rain held off and we got around the pond without any rain. There were only a few turtles out, but the kids were excited to see them! It was fun to see the Lily Pond. The park is doing so much work to improve it. It's really in great shape!
Finally, we headed back to the cabin to start our craft. Each child got to make a little turtle magnet. The shell was a bottled drink cap, with green puff balls for it's head, legs and tail. The kids then got to use their fingerprints to make shell squares with green paint. The glue they had wasn't quite holding the puff balls on the cap, so we ended up hot gluing them when we got home.
She loved making her little turtle friend and he is now living on our fridge with the rest of the magnets and pictures.
After class, we went down to the Dutch Haus for lunch! We love their salad bar and we had learned awhile back that on Thursday's, they have our favorite soup, Chicken Rivel! Delicious!
This evening, Jim, Reagan, Brinkley and I just strolled around the neighborhood. We were almost done when a huge black cloud started baring down on our neighborhood. We ended up jogging the last few minutes of our walk and got in the garage just as it down poured! We're not runners either! LOL!
The photo of the day is Reagan making her turtle magnet....
Here is her turtle friend proudly living on the fridge....
