Washington DC - 152/365

We got up early and loaded the car for the Outer Banks!
We're going down with Jim's family for the week. So exciting!
Nana brought Reagan home around 8:00 so we could hit the road! Jim and I decided that we would drive 1/2 way and make a pit stop in Washington DC for the afternoon. We got there around 2:30, checked in to our hotel in Bethesda and headed downtown. We found parking pretty easy, which was wonderful! It was a GORGEOUS day, 90 degrees and blue skies. Bonus!
Our first stop was the National Museum of Natural History. Their summer hours started and they were staying open until 7:30, so we had plenty of time! We walked all around and Reagan just loved the dinosaurs! One other thing we saw there, was the Hope Diamond. It was unbelievably gorgeous! We came out of that exhibit and stumbled on the gem gift shop. Reagan found a huge bin of gems. She had to play in them for 10 minutes, she loved it!
We continued on and stumbled on the IMAX theater, Jim was excited because they were playing Star Trek - Into Darkness.
We went down to the little cafe there, and had a nice lunch.
Next up, we wandered over to the National Museum of American History. Our first stop was to see the HUGE American flag, that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner. It was gorgeous and obviously unbelievably old. It was really something.
Next, we walked over to where some of the movie stuff is. We saw the original Kermit the Frog. Even cooler, was Judy Garland's Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz. They were amazing! They weren't as red anymore and were a lot bigger than we thought, but so cool to see.
Our last stop was the presidents exhibit. It split into First Ladies and Presidents. Reagan and I headed to the First Lady side to look at the "beautiful gowns", as she called them, and Jim went to read about the men.
After that, we decided to go see some monuments. We were pretty close to the White House, so we stopped over there to grab a quick picture. The last time we were here, also on our way to the Outer Banks, Reagan was only 6 months old, so I wanted a new picture at the White House to see the changes. LOL!
After that, we decided to grab the car and drive over to the Jefferson Memorial. What an unbelievable place. It's huge! I don't remember it being that big that last time I was there. I think it was 8th grade, actually! Anyway, it was really something!
Our last stop of the day was going to be the Roosevelt Memorial. This one was really stunning. It was all beautiful red rock and waterfalls. It had different sections for each of his terms. Reagan's favorite part was the huge bronze statue of his dog, Fala. She stayed there and hugged him for awhile. A foreigner asked if he could take her picture. I said yes, and after he snapped, he said "Oh, this is by far the best picture I have taken the whole time I've been in America. She is precious!" It was so sweet! He just got a kick out of her hugging that big dog!
Overall, it was a fun filled day in DC! We got to see so much in our short time there. We really pounded the pavement. I had flip flops on and for some reason my feet turned BLACK! It was pretty yucky! Reagan kept saying, "mama, your feet are dorty!" LOL!
The photo of the day is us at the Roosevelt Memorial.
The next is Reagan and Fala....
